Specialism in therapy for children and young people: symptoms of anxiety and depression, outbursts and aggressive/oppositional behavior, difficulty with important transitions ( schools, secondary school, college, university, relocation ), trauma ( early, developmental relational, abuse) and/ or isolated traumatic events, bereavement and loss identity issues, self-harm behaviors and suicidal ideation, ASD/ ADD/ ADHD/ intellectual disabilities and personality disorders. Specialism for parent work sessions: exploring parenting styles, birth trauma, peri-natal mental health, historical and intergenerational trauma, experiences of loss and bereavement ( including bereavement for suicide), dealing with a child’s medical condition, procedure or diagnosis (physical, psychological or psychiatric), adoption, understanding a child’s or relative’s autism and/ or other presentations of neurodivergence, oppositional behavior and outbursts, relationship breakdowns, separation and divorce. I offer a collaborative approach, working with parents and carers in order to bring about a holistic understanding of the child / young person’s unique needs. My goal is to provide a supportive space to explore existing strengths in the individual and the family that will promote empathy and build resilience. My framework comprises principles from psychoanalysis, person-centred counselling, attachment theory, neurodivergence affirming and trauma informed approaches whilst taking into consideration a systemic and cultural view of the individual’s difficulties. I also offer Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for additional support to children and young people experiencing severe emotional regulation difficulties. My work is aided by the optional therapeutic use of the arts, play and metaphor and the use of creative techniques such creative writing, collage making and empathy drawings. These creative interventions have the potential to facilitate exploration of feelings and experiences that are often hard to put into words. I hold a MA in Integrative Child Psychotherapy from the University of East London, a membership of the Institute of the Arts and Therapy in Education (IATE), registered membership for the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and a professional accreditation for the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP).
